Photoshop Tutorial: Dark Clouds
Experience level: Easy

Step 1
Create a new image. Set your colours to default (black and white) by pressing "D".
Create some clouds by going to Filters>Render>Clouds

Step 2
Create some difference clouds by going to Filters>Render>Difference Clouds. Hold down "Ctrl-F" multiple times to repeat the effect. Repeat 20 to 40 times.

Step 3
Duplicate the layer by left clicking on the layer to select then right clicking on the layer and select "duplicate layer".
Set the blend mode from "Normal to "Overlay" on the duplicated layer (above the four icons in the example image below).

With the duplicate layer selected (left click on the layer) go to Filters>Distort>Twirl and set the angle to 100-140.

Step 4
Duplicate the original layer again. With the newly duplicated layer go to Filters>Distort>Polar Coordinates and set to "Polar Rectangular".
Set blend mode to "Overlay"

Step 5
Add colour by holding down "Ctrl-U". Make sure "Colourize" is checked". Use the sliders to pick a colour.
Do this to the other layers.
Try experimenting with different blend modes and duplicating the layers like I did below.
