Photoshop Tutorial: Claw Scratches
Experience level: Intermediate

Step 1
Download the image we will be working with.
Download the claw scratches (You must save the image, not copy and paste)
Open up both images in Photoshop and use the "Move" tool
to drag the scratches on to the women's face. Make the scratches smaller by pressing down "Ctrl-T". Go to the corner of the box (your cursor should turn into a diagonal arrow) and hold down your right mouse button and the "Shift" key. Drag to make it smaller.

Step 2
Select your scratches layer in the layer palette and press "Ctrl-J" to duplicate the layer. We will use this duplicate layer later on, so hide it by clicking the eye

Select your visible scratches layer and set blend mode to "Soft light".

Press "Ctrl-U" and move the lightness slider to "-80".

Step 3
Select hidden duplicated layer and press the box where the eye should be to make it visible.
Go to Select>Load Selection and press "OK". You will now have a dotted line around the scratch.
Go to Select>Modify>Contract and contract by "2px".
Go to Select>Inverse and press "Del" on your keyboard.
Go to Select>Deselect to get rid of the selection

Step 4
Change the scratches' colour to black by holding down "Ctrl-U" and set the lightness bar to "-100". Set the layer's blend mode from "Normal" to "Overlay".
Select the other scratches layer (the one with the blend mode set to "Soft light"). Go to Filter>Blue>Gaussian Blur and blur it by "1px".

Step 5
Select the "Burn" tool and use these settings

Size: 5px soft edges
Range: Shadows
Exposure: 40%
Select the layer with women on it and use the burn tool around the edges of the scratches.
Use the "Eraser" tool to remove the scratches over her eyes.
