A search engine is a website where users can search for a website using keywords. Examples of search engines include Google, Yahoo, MSN or Ask.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the number of customers that visit your site from a search engine.
Why is SEO important to my business?
A well optimized website is fundamental in bringing new customers to your business. For example, if you own a flower shop in downtown Ottawa and someone types "Ottawa flower shop" into Google then your website will probably appear on the first page if it is optimized.
How come my website does not appear on the first page of Google?
All the search engines use complex formulas to decide whether website is worthy to be placed on the first page. The search engine's formula takes in to account many variables such as:
- How long your website has been online
- The number of other websites that link to your website
- The suffix of your domain name (.com, .ca, .co.uk, etc)
